Everything You Need to Know About Rumparooz Newborn Covers
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The Rumparooz® Newborn Cover is a waterproof shell and requires absorbency inside, such as a prefold, flat, fitted diaper, or insert.
Most families find that 6–10 newborn covers paired with enough absorbency for frequent changes provides a great full-time newborn cloth diapering stash.
Yes. If the cover is not soiled, it can often be wiped clean or aired out and reused through multiple diaper changes before washing.
Yes. Rumparooz® Newborn Covers are designed to fit babies starting around 4 pounds, making them an excellent option for many preemies and smaller newborns.
The patented Rumparooz® Double Inner Gusset provides two gentle barriers around your baby's legs to help contain leaks and messes. This innovative design offers superior protection, especially for newborns and heavy wetters. This is different from the dual side-wall gussets contained in diaper cover designs. Diaper Covers do not contain double inner gussets (no brands).
The Patented Double Inner Gusset exclusive to Kanga Care cloth diapers and designed originally for the Rumparooz One Size Cloth Diaper is an interior elastic channel that provides a second barrier of protection along the legs or back of the diaper.
The Double Side-Wall Gusset is an extra flap of TPU (the waterproof exterior fabric of the cover) that is attached at the outer edge of the leg elastic to create depth within the cover to allow for the extra bulk created by the many layers of fabric that can be contained in a prefold, flat, flitted, 360º absorbency layering system used with covers.
Both closure options provide a secure, adjustable fit:
- Snap Closure: Durable, long-lasting, and more difficult for curious toddlers to remove.
- Aplix (Hook & Loop): Fast and easy to adjust, offering a familiar diaper-changing experience similar to disposables.
Because newborns require frequent changes, most families wash every 2–3 days. Covers can often be reused between changes if they remain clean and dry.
Wash your covers with a cloth-diaper-safe detergent using a proper wash routine. Tumble dry on low or hang dry to extend the life of the waterproof materials. Avoid fabric softeners, which can impact performance.
